Taking care of the freshwater pearl mussel rearing panels

We must not neglect freshwater pearl mussel in winter either. In times of higher flow rate or during works around the stream, e.g. cutting back woody plants on the banks, the water carries various materials like soil, stones or twigs, which get caught on panels and boxes with juvenile mussels, located in several places in the Aš streams. In hard frost there is also a danger of the formation of ice which puts the mussels at risk, too. The boxes therefore need to be checked and cleaned regularly. This requires not only experience but also determination and resistance to chilly water and cold.
