Compost piles for the second time, marsh fritillary and drought

During the summer we finished the construction of all the temporary compost piles so we have somewhere to put scythed biomass, and you can have a look how such a sophisticated compost is built. We will add shade shelter in the spring so that worms are not too hot in there :-)

This year’s drought left its marks on the amount of water in pearl mussel streams, especially on Bystřina which has practically dried out in its middle stretch and the pearl mussels had to be transported to a provisional asylum in one of the artificial brooks. In this photo gallery you can have a look at not only several transferred pearl mussels but also photographs of marsh fritillary larval webs from the meadows around the food brooks.
