After almost two years, our project of implementation of a rescue programme for the pearl mussel in the Aš region is nearing the end. During this time, we have mown hectares of meadows, cut back dozens of wind dispersed woody plants, built 7 compost piles, regulated almost 2 km of food brooks, reared hundreds of trout and pearl mussels and done lots of other things. However, pearl mussel conservation has neither started nor ended with our project. This rare species has a chance to survive on the border between Bohemia, Bavaria and Saxony only thanks to a years-long common effort of individuals as well as authorities on both sides of the border. We wish the pearl mussel and its supporters all the best for the future!
